Becoming a volunteer
Come and visit us in Sumatra with a small charity that has recently partnerships with us. Adventure Aid is raising money for us by arranging great adventure trips around Sumatra. You meet some the children you will help, visit the Lake Toba and hang out with the famous Sumatran orang-utans. Please learn more by visiting their website: http://www.adventureaid.org.uk/sumatra/
The Children of Sumatra is a very small charity which runs on very limited funds. Our work would not be possible if it were not for the volunteer teams that come over every year to help us. Nurses are an essential part of our team and over the years we have been blessed to have so many fantastic nurses work with us from all over the world. We only have two part time members of staff that receive Indonesian salaries and the rest of the team consists of volunteers which help everything run as smoothly as possible.
If you are a nurse or have some medical experience and you feel you would like to help our small team during the operations, please do email us. Before you do so, we feel it is best for volunteers to have a good think about their personal adaptability. It is best to think long and hard about the fact that hospitals and practices will differ enormously from those we are so lucky to have in the UK whilst also acknowledging the many challenges of working within, a very much still developing country, in the tropics. It is evident to us from our previous volunteers, that those who have contributed most to our work and have felt the most reward are quite often fairly hardened traveler types, who are willing to accept and be comfortable within the Indonesian standard of living, who are good at working closely with others and are those guys who can keep smiling when things are tough and days are long.
We are happy to hear from you so if you would like to be involved in our work in some way, please send us an email and someone will come back to you as soon as possible.
